ChickQuest: Let's Learn about Life

April 23, 2021 - 10:24am -- staubach.9@osu.edu

They are fluffy, they are cute, and they are part of the food system.

If you have never hatched an egg, it is not a terribly difficult process if you have the right equipment.

One dozen fertilized eggs (not the eggs from the grocery store) are placed in a 100° incubator for 21 days. Around the 21st day the small chicks make their first pip and find their way out of the shell.

After a few days in the school with their temporary parents, chicks are donated to 4-H families in the region.

Volunteering to Celebrate the Season

December 7, 2018 - 2:37pm -- staubach.9@osu.edu

The sun might be shining but the biting cold of a December morning was an excellent reminder that the holiday season is upon us. To celebrate, the OSU Extension, Hamilton County staff took time on Friday to put their own interests aside and volunteer with Valley Interfaith. This annual volunteer project serves as the kick off to their holiday celebrations by giving back to an agency they have partnered with in the past.

While the staff of Hamilton County Extension spends every day giving back to their community, on Friday, December 15th the staff chose to commemorate the season by putting their normal duties on hold to learn about how others give back and contribute to their efforts. Volunteering at Matthew 25 Ministries provided the staff with an opportunity learn about how a multi-national non-profit serves those in need. The staff also enjoyed some valuable bonding time.

By: Tony Staubach, Program Manger, 4-H Youth Development.

Laughter and joy erupted at Pleasant Hill Academy in College Hill on Wednesday as the 6th grade launched rockets and the 4th grade experimented with a banana piano. Since September youth in 4th, 5th and 6th grade at Pleasant Hill have participated in 4-H Agri-Science in the City as an integrated part of their school day.
