BYGL Walkabout

This is the 25th year for the OSU Extension, Diagnostic Walk-Abouts in Greater Cincinnati. The jouney continues.

What Is It? 

  • Professional Training:  the Walk-Abouts are for Green Industry professionals (arborists, landscapers, turf managers, nursery managers, etc.)  
  • Comprehensive:  participants look at plants, plant pests, plant diseases, landscape designs, and other points of interest.  Discussions focus on plant problem diagnostics, plant health management, plant selection, and sustainable landscape designs.
  • Up-to-Date:  updates are provided on newly emerging plant health issues (e.g. pest outbreaks, non-native invasives, changes to pesticide labeling, etc.).

Last season, we created the Virtual Diagnostic Walk-Abouts in response to COVID-19 restrictions.  Some restrictions are easing but others remain in effect for OSU training events.  However, changes may be on the horizon.

THE PLAN

  • We will continue offering the Virtual Diagnostic Walk-Abouts.
  • If restrictions ease to allow us to meet face-to-face outdoors without social distancing, we will begin meeting at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum.

VIRTUAL TRAINING

  • We will use the Zoom platform for presentations and discussions.
  • Participants can truly participate by asking questions and participating in open discussions.
  • The focus will be on “what's happening” in the landscapes and urban forests in Greater Cincinnati.
  • Updates will be provided on newly emerging plant health issues (e.g. pest outbreaks, non-native invasives, changes to pesticide labeling, etc.)

HANDS-ON TRAINING (if allowed)

  • If we can conduct hands-on training, we will meet at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum.  Registered participants will be contacted with the details.
  • We will look at plants, plant pests, plant diseases, landscape designs, and other points of interest.  Discussions focus on plant problem diagnostics, plant health management, plant selection, and sustainable landscape designs.

 

Times:  9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  (both Virtual and Hands-On Training)

  1. Monday, June 7
  2. Monday, July 12
  3. Monday, August 2
  4. Monday, September 13

 

To participate, follow these two steps:

STEP 1:

Email Kim Martini at martini.1@osu.edu to register. She will need your name, company and number of people registering. Kim will email you the link to pay the $50.00 registration fee .

STEP 2:

Zoom links will be sent to you for each Virtual Walk About.
