  1. 2017 Tri-State Green Industry Conference (Tri-State GIC) Sets a New Record

    The Tri-State GIC has been offered annually for 80+ years to horticulture professionals working in Greater Cincinnati.  This year’s GIC broke an all-time record with 582 participants.  The previous record was set last year with 558 participants.

    The Tri-State GIC was held on February 2, 2017, at the Sharonville Convention Center in Hamilton County.  The day-long training program for Green Industry professionals had 7 teaching tracks involving 22 speakers making 29 teaching presentations.  The GIC's Trade Show also connected 26 exhibitors to local professionals.

  2. Extension Advisory Committees Members Meet With Their Local Legislators in Columbus, Ohio

    The Ohio State University Extension's Legislative Luncheon was held on February 15th in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio legislators representing both the House and the Senate, or their aides, were on hand to speak with their constituents regarding Extension programming from all 88 counties. Hamilton County Extension Advisory Committee (EAC) delegates included Brad Bonham, Kevin Griffin, and Timothy Walker. Advisory members had the opportunity to share one-on-one Extension stories with State Senators Cecil Thomas and Louis Terhard, and House Representative Catherine Ingram.

    Laughter and joy erupted at Pleasant Hill Academy in College Hill on Wednesday as the 6th grade launched rockets and the 4th grade experimented with a banana piano. Since September youth in 4th, 5th and 6th grade at Pleasant Hill have participated in 4-H Agri-Science in the City as an integrated part of their school day.

    Food is the third greatest expense for the typical American household. Approximately 13% of the average budget is consumed by food. [1] Consequently, 12.7% of US households are food-insecure, 7.7% of those households classify as having low food security and 5% classify as having very low food security. Ohio ranks above the national average in food in-security.

  8. Hamilton County is Now Accepting Applications for the 2016 Master Gardener Volunteer Training Class

    OSU Extension, Hamilton County is now accepting applications for their 201 6 Master Gardener Volunteer Training Class.  The Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested gardeners who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their Ohio State University County Extension Office. The Master Gardener training course consists of a minimum of 50 hours of instruction.
