Hamilton County 4-H will begin accepting submission for the summer art display "Summer of: Cicadas" on April 21, 2021. Youth ages 5-19 are encouraged to submit their creative works capturing the experience of living with these periodic "friends". Youth can submit both print and digital works to be displayed at the Hamilton County Community Fair, the Hamilton County Fair and the Harvest Home Fair in addition to other locations TBD.

* Final works or recreations of the art work will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for OSU Extension, Hamilton County 4-H Youth Development in December.

Rules for Submission

Physical Art:

1.) Your online registration form must be completed by June 18, 2021:
2.) Projects must be on 10in X 10in rigid board.
3.) No Frames or mats allowed.
4.) Art projects will rotate to multiple sites. You must ensure that your art is sturdy enough for transport to at least 6 venues between July and November.
5.) Projects must be received at the OSU Extension, Hamilton County Office (4210 Dane Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45223) by June 18, 2021 at 5:00PM.
6.) Youth will receive an email from within 48 business hours an ID number that must be written on the back of your art project after you complete the online submission form available:
7.) Youth should not include their full name in the art. You can use your first OR last name only to protect your identify.

Digital Art:

1.) Projects must be submitted by June 18, 2021 at 5:00PM via:
2.) Projects must be submitted in .JPEG, .MP4, .GIF, or .WMV format.
3.) No videos or moving images longer than 15 seconds will be accepted.
4.) Youth should not include their full name in the art. You can use your first OR last name only to protect your identify.

*Artists will be required to agree to the OSU Extension, 4-H Youth Development Standards of Behavior which include our non-discrimination statement.


Participation is based on the current 4-H membership rules and based on the child’s age AND grade as of January 1 of the current calendar year.
Youth who do not fall within these rules can still have their works displayed but will not be eligable for awards.
Youth are eligable to submit one project. The first submission will be the only project considered.

Cloverbuds- any youth between 5 and in kindergarten to 8 and in second grade.
Members- any youth between 8 and in third grade to high school seniors.

*Eligibility for Cloverbud participation begins when a child is age 5 and enrolled in kindergarten. Eligibility for participation in 4-H projects and competitive events begins when a child is age 8 and in third grade. Any youth age 9 or above is eligible for project membership, regardless of grade level. Membership requires enrollment in an authorized Ohio 4-H club or group under the direction of an OSU Extension professional or an approved adult volunteer. A youth’s 4-H eligibility ends December 31 the year he or she turns 19.
